OIA Events, a leading Events and Learning organization, Singapore, recently conducted workshops for 120 Teachers of English innovative methods they could use with their wards to liven up their classrooms and get them interested in the language. The workshops focused on the use of Rap and rhyme, Forum Drama and hosting, and Storytelling as tools of experiential learning.
OIA Events was invited to conduct these workshops at the recently held “Centenary English Language Conference” organized by the Confucian Private Secondary Schools in KL, Malaysia, There were 119 teachers who attended the conference. The facilitators lead the sessions and demonstrated experiential learning. The Coaching clinic and Practicum sessions ensured the all attendees participated.
For two days the halls of the Confucian school resounded with the beat of drums and rhyme, and the dramatic expression of drama and storytelling; laughter and self discovery.
One of the biggest challenges these teachers faced was to keep their young wards interested and motivated to learn the language. At the conclusion of the workshops the teachers had not only discovered new talent within them, but felt empowered to influence their wards with their new found skills.
The aim of the conference was to empower, enlighten, enliven, engage, and, to provide understanding through experience, so that the teachers could do the same.
At the end of two non-stop-action days, the teachers went home energized, chanting the mantra “I can do it, you can do it, we can do it”!
