The IMDEX/UDT Asia 2003 Exhibition and Conference was officially opened on Tuesday
11 November by Minister Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Defence,
and Roger Marriott, Co-Chairman and Managing Director of Imdex Asia Ltd.
Over 900 dignitaries including members of the 42 VIP Delegations from 30 countries,
members of the Diplomatic Corps, Defence Attaches and senior representatives from Industry
attended the Opening Ceremony.Following the Opening Ceremony Minister Teo and Cedric Foo,
Minister of State (Defence) made a tour of the Exhibition followed by Lunch. A tour of the warships
followed at the Changi Naval Base welcoming the crews of 16 warships from 10 countries who were
in Singapore in support of the Show..
Another highlight at this year's Event was the traditional IMDEX Asia Olympiad
organized by Outdoorinasia Pte Ltd when the crews from the 16 warships competed in
six events including soccer, tug of war and tennis. The overall winner
of the coveted Victor Ludorum Cupwas the crew from the FNS Marne of France.
The Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy, Rear Admiral Ronnie Tay welcomed the
assembled guests and Lord Bach, Minister of Defence Procurement for the UK MoD, responded
on behalf of the 900 guests.The Organisers have confirmed that IMDEX Asia 2005 will revert
once again to the traditional Spring date and will be held from 3 - 6 May 2005.
